East Dupont Circle ABC License Moratorium Zone
A limit exists on the number of alcoholic beverage licenses that can be issued in the East Dupont Circle neighborhood. The moratorium extends approximately 600 feet in all directions from the intersection of 17th and Q Streets, NW.
Effective November 20, 2013, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board renewed the East Dupont Circle Moratorium for a three-year period with significant modifications. The decision is subject to final approval from the District of Columbia Council. As a result of this decision, the East Dupont Circle Moratorium now limits the number of alcoholic beverage licenses that can be issued in the defined zone to:
- Two licenses to taverns; and
- No licenses to nightclubs.
Hotels are exempt from the terms of the moratorium. Complete details are available in the Notice of Emergency and Proposed Rulemaking.
