ABRA TO HOLD “MEDICAL CANNABIS SALES TAX HOLIDAY REGISTRATION WEEK” FOR QUALIFYING PATIENTS
Six percent sales tax on all medical cannabis products waived from April 15-24, 2022
(WASHINGTON, DC) –In anticipation of DC’s first medical cannabis sales tax holiday (April 15-24, 2022), ABRA will host a “Medical Cannabis Sales Tax Holiday Registration Week” from Monday, April 11-Thursday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. daily.
Walk-in applicants who submit complete applications will receive a digital and physical registration valid for two (2) years from date of issuance at no cost during their visit. Registration fees are being waived for new and renewal applications submitted online or by mail or email through April 24, 2022.
During the 10-day sales tax holiday, medical cannabis products purchased from any of DC’s seven (7) licensed dispensaries—by DC patients and non-resident patients extended reciprocity—will be exempt from the six (6) percent sales tax. Patients may purchase up to eight (8) ounces of medical cannabis within a 30-day period.
As part of their application, DC residents that are 65 years of age and older may self-certify that they will use cannabis for medical purposes only in lieu of including a recommendation from their healthcare practitioner with their application as is required for all other applicants.
“Medical Cannabis Sales Tax Holiday Registration Week will provide DC residents with an additional option to obtain a two-year registration card at no cost prior to the start of the medical cannabis sales tax holiday on April 15,” said ABRA Director Fred Moosally.
Walk-in registration events will take place at ABRA’s office located at 2000 14th Street NW, Suite 102A (Ground Floor), Washington, DC 20009. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications online in advance to further expedite the processing.
