ABC Board Continues to Suspend Heritage India/The Zanzibar's Liquor License

Friday, January 16, 2015
Establishment would be subject to ban on entertainment, strict conditions to operate again.

(Washington, D.C.) – The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (Board) continued the suspension of Heritage India/The Zanzibar’s alcoholic beverage license last night following a ten-hour hearing.

The license will remain suspended until Heritage India/The Zanzibar provides an enhanced security plan that addresses the Board’s safety concerns. The security plan will also need to be accepted by the Board. In addition, the Board will permanently ban the establishment from offering any future entertainment—DJs, live bands, charging a cover, etc.—and prohibit the establishment from using promoters if the suspension is lifted.

Heritage India/The Zanzibar could also be subject to fines and penalties. The Board has referred the case to the Office of the Attorney General to bring formal charges against the licensee. A hearing would be scheduled to address any filed charges. At a hearing, the Board would have the option of imposing penalties and fines on the license.

The Board held two hearings this week regarding the incident that occurred on Saturday, January 3 at Heritage India/The Zanzibar. The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration would post notice of any future hearings regarding the case on its website.
