Alcohol License Safekeeping Application

Alcohol licensees that close or cease operations for 21 or more days are required to submit an additional application to permit them to surrender their license to the ABC Board for safekeeping.

Once surrendered, licensees must submit an additional application to the ABC Board biannually to extend the safekeeping status. The request deadlines are March 31 and September 30 annually.

Extension applications and any relevant supporting documents must be submitted by either:

  • Email
  • Mail or In-Person | ABCA, 2000 14th Street NW, Suite 400 South, Washington, DC 20009

If approved, licensees must pay the safekeeping fee within 30-days of the billing issuance date. See License Fees and Renewal Schedule.

Licenses are subject to cancellation for failure to timely file an extension application or to pay all annual license and safekeeping fees by the required deadlines.
