License Class Quick-Reference Table

The table below provides a list and brief description of each license class.

 
  License   
  Brief Description 
  Application 
  Operation of a rectifying plant, distillery, or winery.
   
   
  Operation of a brewery for the manufacture of beer.
  Retailer's License Class A
  (Liquor store)    
  Retail sale of beer, wine, and spirits for off-premises
  consumption.            
  Retailer's License Class B
  (Grocery/convenience store)    
  Retail sale of beer and wine for off-premises consumption.         
  Retail sale of beer, wine, and spirits for on-premises
  consumption. There are five (5) types of Class C licenses:
  CR, CT, CN, CX, and CH.
  Retail sale of beer and wine for on -premises
  consumption. There are five (5) types of Class D licenses:
  DR, DT, DN, DX, and DH.
  Temporary sale of wine and beer for on-premises
  consumption, as long as food is served.
  Retail sale of spirits, wine, and beer for one to four (1-4)
  days on the premises, as long as food is served.
  Sale of spirits to another D.C. license holder for resale.
  Sale of beer and wines to another D.C license holder
  for resale.
  Consumption of alcoholic beverages on those parts of
  the club's premises as approved by the ABC Board.
  Authorizes the holder to manage a licensed establishment.
  Authorizes the licensee to sell any alcoholic beverage on
  behalf of the vendor whose name appears upon the license
  and whom the solicitor represents.
  Authorizes a licensee to sell and serve alcohol at catered
  events as part of the licensee’s processing, preparation and
  service of food products, and where the sales and service
  of alcoholic beverages is incidental to the food preparation
  and service provided by the caterer.
