Last week, Chancellor Kaya Henderson and Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry joined Council Chairman Kwame Brown to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2011’s, both DCPS and PCS, most improved students.
Students shared stories of their journeys to make academic improvements in school. All of the 2011 award recipients are attending college in the fall.
“It’s not about how you start. It’s about how you finish,” said Robert Butler, graduate of Cardozo Senior High School.
Principals and guidance counselors made nominations based on relationships they have built with students as they strived to improve their academic performance.
Chairman Brown created the annual awards ceremony after authoring and introducing legislation to honor our graduates’ academic achievements and was been driven by Brown's desire to acknowledge the most improved student of each DC public high school to further foster and encourage student effort.
